Arief Priyono is an Indonesia-based documentary photographer, writer and filmmaker. To date, he has undertaken many projects related to human rights, environment and culture.
He worked as a photographer at the Indonesian News Agency ANTARA from 2007 to 2012, until he finally decided to become a freelance journalist. In 2010, he received an assignment from Human Rights Watch to photograph political prisoners of the Republic of South Maluku.
In 2013 and 2014 he received a scholarship for the Photographer Training of Trainers program from the PannaFoto Institute at Erasmus Huis, the Dutch Cultural Center in Jakarta.
His work has been published by various media outlets such as Project Multatuli, NatGeo Traveler Indonesia, VICE Indonesia, The Jakarta Globe, Tempo, The Jakarta Post, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, Dein Spiegel, Fit for Fun Magazine, Channel News Asia, etc.
His first documentary film, concerning children orphaned due to COVID-19 in Indonesia, won the Ruedi Hofmann Media Awards from the 7th Puskat Film Festival in 2021.
